2015-16 Scholarship Application

The ONGEA and ONGEA Auxiliary will be awarding $1,000 and $500 scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic
year. There will be a minimum of five and maximum of 10 scholarships awarded.
All scholarship applications must be sent to: ONGEA, ATTN: Scholarship Chairperson, 1299 Virginia
Ave., Columbus, OH 43212. Applications must include all required information to be considered. Additional
application forms may be obtained going on-line at www.ongea.org, or by calling 1-800-642-6642. Applications
must be post-marked April 1, 2015, or earlier.
An impartial panel of judges will rank the scholarship applications. Awards will be given on a one-year basis.
Previous winners are not eligible to apply. Please read the scholarship material and complete the application
in full.

Sponsor must be a member of ONGEA, and the spouse of Sponsor must be a member of the ONGEA Auxiliary
in order for an applicant to be eligible; in other words, both the Sponsor and the Sponsor’s spouse must
be members of respective organizations for the applicant to be eligible. If the Sponsor is a single parent of the
student applying, please state so and the application will be considered. The ONGEA member must be a serving
or retired enlisted member of the Ohio National Guard.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
The Ohio National Guard Enlisted Association (ONGEA), ONGEA Auxiliary, United States Automobile Association
(USAA) and the First Cleveland Cavalry-Norton Memorial Fund have established funds for scholarship
awards. The following persons are eligible:
-Children of enlisted ONGEA and ONGEA Auxiliary members (Spouse of Sponsor/ONGEA member
must be a member of the ONGEA Auxiliary in order for an applicant to be eligible).
-Unmarried dependent sons and daughters of deceased enlisted ONGEA and ONGEA Auxiliary members
who were in good standing at the time of their death.
-Enlisted ONGEA members who are currently serving or retired from the Ohio National Guard (if married,
spouses of ONGEA members must be a member of the ONGEA Auxiliary in order to be eligible).

The Scholarship Committee will award scholarship grants as approved by the ONGEA Executive Board. Applicants
must be enrolled at a college, university, trade or business school in order to receive funds. Alternates
will also be designated to cover the possibility that the primary recipient does not actually enroll and matriculate
for the school term. Graduate students are not eligible for scholarship awards.

Grants will be presented to scholarship recipients at the annual ONGEA Awards Banquet. There shall be no
consideration whatsoever given because of rank or grade of applicant or applicant’s parents. Grants will be
awarded on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and need. All application packets must include:
-Completed application form
-Letter from applicant with facts as to his/her desire to continue their education, comments about their
individual future goals and objectives, and comments as to the value that this financial aid will afford.
-Three letters of recommendation verifying the application and giving general personal traits (high
school principal, counselor, dean, professor, minister, employer, etc.)
-Transcript of high school credits (and college credits if applicable).
-Photograph suitable for publication (2½x3½ photo preferred, can be larger; request return if needed).
-Copy of Sponsor’s ONGEA membership card and spouse’s Auxiliary membership card, if married.

Former recipients of an ONGEA scholarship are not eligible to apply. Those persons who have applied for a
scholarship and were not awarded a scholarship may reapply. If the school term is not completed due to causes
other than illness or physical injury, the student will refund the scholarship award.
